As many as 10 people were killed and three others wounded in a mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York on Saturday.

The gunman was taken into custody and is being treated for what is believed to be self-inflicted wounds.

The shooter was apprehended by the Buffalo Police Department.

The gunman is a U.S. Army veteran of the Afghanistan war who had been discharged from the military in 2014.

The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime and racially motivated violent extremism.
